The exhibition Hindeloopen in the Fries Museum will be completed with a jacket and by Viktor & Rolf. The Dutch designers were inspired in their design by the ancient Hindelooper costume. In the exhibition, the visitor is taken to the Old Frisian port town.
The entrepreneurial instinct and freethinker mentality are broadly known as the historical qualities that define the Dutch DNA.
Nowadays with the disappearance of mass production in the Netherlands these characteristics are crucial for the Dutch fashion chain. However they are barely used.
When values are better linked and connected to education, new possibilities appear and will give fashion in the Netherlands a more distinct international quality. It will provide future generations with more interesting and better prospects.
Fashion Council NL serves as a liaison officer. A neutral party within the fashion industry is necessary to situate itself as the much-needed connection between creativity, education and business.
- Transparency and the sharing of knowledge within the Dutch fashion chain

The education conference: ‘Cruise Collection’
On March 20th, 2015 the Fashion Council NL organised a conference: ‘Cruise Collection.’ After conversations with representatives of educational institutions on all levels, (MBO, HBO, University), designers and fashion professionals working in the industry, the Fashion Council NL organized the conference. A full day filled with exchanging views and opinions with the aim to discuss new shapes and possibilities within fashion education and to create better connections with the entire fashion industry.
Partner for the project is lectureship Change Management of the Hague University who also kindly provided us with the venue, facilities and catering.
After a short program of speeches the sixty participants (representing MBO, HBO and Universities) were divided in groups and participated in workshops to work intensively on the future of fashion education. The workshops resulted in the following important focus points and conclusions:
- Reality schools
- Knowledge of fabric
- Crafts and technology
- Technique and business
- Sharing of knowledge
- Research and innovation
A team, consisting of fashion professionals who contributed to the Cruise Collection conference, is currently developing two realistic pilots for fashion-based education, which can be realized with the collaboration of existing systems.
